Making The Most Of Garden Features

Landscaping a garden is a delightful way to add your own stamp on the aesthetics of your home. However, when I moved into my first home, I had absolutely no clue about the best way to design a great landscape, or even what garden features were. I have created this blog because I want to share the landscaping ideas I have picked up in the past decade. Water features, privacy screens, bird baths and statues are all excellent options for garden features. So, have a read of my blog posts and see which of the garden features I write about appeal to you.

How to Create a Beautiful Landscape in Your Home.

A beautiful garden design can make your property stand out and significantly increase its value. In this article, you will learn how to create a beautiful landscape.

Landscape design.

Landscape design is a creative process. As such, if you do not have any experience in landscaping, it is best that you hire a landscaper. A landscape plan is a map of your garden defining the position of the various elements you intend to put up. The secret to a beautiful landscape is spacing. Therefore, limit the installations if you have a small space.

Plants.

Below are a few tips to help you when planting the flowers and trees.

  • Avoid trees with fibrous roots, since they could damage your foundation and pavement.
  • Strategically plant the trees to offer shade inside the house, so you cut on air conditioning costs.
  • If you have a busy schedule, consider low maintenance grasses such as Zoysia that do not require regular mowing.
  • Choose a grass with excellent self-repair properties if you will have children playing on the lawn.
  • To add flair to your garden, choose shrubs with different kinds of flowers.

Entertainment and gathering places.

If you have adequate space, consider constructing gazebos and patios in your garden. A deck can also be perfect for family dinners and gatherings. Additional features such as kitchens and bar areas can also improve your experience. Install built-in speakers and a television screen for outdoor entertainment.

Water features.

A swimming pool is a must have for most people with adequate garden space. Swimming pools are excellent recreational facilities and the perfect place to relax during hot afternoons. Besides, they are an amazing place to hold barbeques and parties. If you do not want to dig up your garden, consider an above ground swimming pool.

Water fountains require minimal space. Install the fountains in open areas to capture the attention of passers-by and guests coming into your home. The sound of the water produces a calming effect. As such, avoid placing the fountain in areas where other noises will distort the fountain's sound.

Lighting and night spaces.

Add beauty to your garden by highlighting the steps and trees with lights. If you use bright lights, you will lose the essence of night lighting. Install underwater spotlights and fibre optic lighting in your swimming pool or water fountain to create breath-taking effects in your garden. Fire pits ensure that you enjoy your garden during cold nights.

When designing your garden, create a landscape plan, be creative with the plants, consider entertainment places, put in water features, and install lighting.
