Why There's Plenty of Work to Do in the Garden During the Off-Season As Well
If you've just purchased a new home with an attached garden during the latter half of the year, you may be getting ready for the winter ahead and ready to relax with no worries ahead. You know that the garden will eventually require some maintenance but believe that this activity can be scheduled for the spring instead. In the meantime, you can let everything stand as it is. However, a certain amount of work should be done as the nights get longer and the days get cooler if your garden is going to be in the best shape for the growing season next year. Consequently, what do you need to think about?
Cleaning Up
If you have a number of mature trees in your garden, then they will be preparing for hibernation. As they do so, they will shed all their leaves, and while this may look pretty at the outset, you need to clear it up rather than leaving it to its own devices. If you don't, the lawn below will likely suffer the consequences, and you may need to spend a great deal more on fertiliser to bring it back to life.
Fertilising
Talking of fertiliser, you should also ensure that the biology of the soil is protected. This will require a certain type of fertiliser to help deal with any dry areas and keep the soil in good condition until winter rains arrive. Remember, it's best if the fertiliser is introduced over time rather than all at once, as it will be able to work more effectively with this approach.
Looking After the Grass
You may not need to cut the grass as much as the months progress, but you should try and find a mower that returns the grass clippings to the lawn as you go. This will help to nourish the grass and keep it in as good condition as possible over the slow season. While you are there, however, you should identify any areas that have been damaged due to drought or excess sun. You may need to introduce certain additives or minerals to bring the grass back to prime condition, and this may also require several applications if it is to be fully effective.
Your Options
As you can see, there's quite a lot of work to do to the garden in the off-season, and you may be quite worried about the scale of the work in total. It may be a good idea, therefore, for you to get in touch with a gardening service that can take care of all this work for you and allow you to return to your peace and quiet.
